Formed in 1949 by several prominent archeologists and investors, this group was dedicated to working to preserve the archeological history of the world for future study. In establishing the foundation, a board of directors was appointed to oversee the operation, direction and funding of the foundation.
The initial charter of the foundation was to identify historically significant locations, research and preserve them. To this end, the foundation established several branch ‘offices’ around the world, recruited the best and brightest talents in wide-ranging fields, and provided them with the best equipment to do the job.
The 1950’s saw the slow expansion of the Sangraal Foundation. Several initial successes helped the foundation earn a special praise from UNESCO, as well as a special accreditation that helped the foundation gain access to new areas for exploration.
In the 1960’s saw the first realignment and organization of the Sangraal Foundation. Under Chairman John Desmond Clarke, several new departments and missions were established – including forensic anthropology, archeological crimes and cryptography.

Board of Directors
Each member of the board makes an investment of money (their ‘Stake’, currently $20 million US dollars) for their position. A member of the board can only be removed by death, gross incompetence or a trial of the board for conduct detrimental to the Sangraal Foundation. In this case, a unanimous vote of the other board members is required for removal. The board seeks replacements from like-minded individuals.
The BOD has ultimate authority over the direction of the foundation, but tends to take a hands-off approach, leaving most of the daily operations to the department heads. However, with the ascension of the current Chairman, Stephen A Kovacs, who assumed the position in March of 2003, the board has taken a more active role in directing the operations of departments.
